About Emma

I am a holder of a PhD, yet I was not happy at school: I was only saved in education by a marvellous teacher.

I went from wanting to leave school at 16 to getting 8 A* and an A at GCSE, full marks in most modules of AS and A2 English, History, Politics, and AS Economics and Latin, a First in an undergraduate degree in English Literature and Language at King's College London, and a Distinction in an MA in History and English.

The turning point was finding a teacher who believed in my abilities. I hold season tickets at Arsenal, have played rugby for 10 years (and have been on the committee for three), and currently train young event horses near Reading.

Tutoring Experience:

I am Visiting Research Fellow at King's College London's English department, lecturing in Jane Austen, Romantic Poetry, Eighteenth Century Studies and on the essay writing programme.

I teach from first year undergraduate to Masters level courses. Additionally, I teach every year at Heathfield Summer School, working with students from 8 to 18 years old from as many as twenty-five different nationalities from across the globe.

I am the director of the English with Style course at the summer school. During the rest of the year, I have a number of private students and have taught English, History, Politics, Geography, Biology and Chemistry, and Maths.

I have also had experience working with students with dyspraxia, ADD and ADHD, Asperger's and dyslexia of varying degrees.
