The new curriculum has greatly raised the expectations of what children need to attain by the end of the academic year to gain the expected standard. More and more children require after school support and 1:1 tutoring can make a huge impact on their progress. I have seen this first hand with the children I am tutoring.
I am conscientious, organised and passionate about what I do. I am confident in my teaching ability and feel that tutoring children are such a rewarding experience as the growth in their confidence and skills can be seen from one session to the next.
I am dedicated, hard-working and love what I do and would take great pleasure in helping your child to fulfil their academic potential.
Availability: Currently I tutor on a Wednesday and Thursday evening but depending on your location I could fit in another slot on either day. I am also available Mondays, Fridays and at weekends.
Willing to travel: 5 miles
My approach to tutoring involves building children's confidence and self-esteem through the use of positive praise and constructive feedback. I use a range of questioning strategies to make sure that children are involved in my sessions and I ensure that all children are working to the best of their ability, trying their best and pushing themselves to reach their targets and get to the next level.
I instil a positive ‘can do’ attitude in my classroom and encourage the children to persevere with tasks even when it is a challenge; this is something I bring with me to my tutoring sessions. I am supportive, calm and patient and ensure that children know they can ask me any question at any time during the session to further their understanding as this is something that holds a lot of children back within a school setting.
Making the children feel at ease and developing a good working relationship with them is a strength of mine and this is a key factor in successful tutoring. The children I currently tutor are aware of the targets they have been set, know their steps to success and strive to get there. I evaluate every session I teach and adapt my planning to suit the children’s needs, helping them to achieve and progress further.
I plan lessons that are fun, interactive, engaging and suit the children's age range, for example, the Year 1 child I tutor loves princesses and so I try to plan our writing activities around fairy-tales as this engages the child's interest. Whereas a Year 4 child I tutor loves History and likes to be challenged so I plan comprehension activities that require deep level thought and use of inferential skills to extend this child's understanding.
