I am an experienced photographer and videographer with about ten years experience in photography and roughly five years experience in filmmaking.
Very friendly and easy going I am very patient and have no problem repeating the same thing as many times as needed for it to stick. I am very comfortable with people of all ages, and believe that each lesson should be about the enjoyment of the whole process along with furthering ones own knowledge.
Photography has always been a great passion of mine and image making in all it's forms has come to not only define the way I see the world but myself as a person as well. I have an A-level qualification from a local school in Bath along with a BA-Hons degree from Nottingham Trent University, both in photography. My degree taught me a broad set of skills in both practical image-making and photo editing, along with a detailed academic understanding of photography and how to read an image, for being a photographer is more than just being able to take a nice looking photograph.
It is vitally important to be able to understand the reason why such an image has been captured and the messages that are apparent within said image. I have a detailed understanding of both location and studio based photography and have the ability to teach practical skills at all levels from novice to advanced techniques across a wide spectrum of mediums from landscapes to still life.
Weather you have a big expensive camera or a little pocket compact camera, even a disposable camera from Boots, ultimately it doesn't matter. It isn't the equipment that makes the photographer it simply acts as a tool for your own creation. Along with actually taking pictures, I will also teach you how to edit them and create a workflow.
I will show you simple retouching techniques and more advanced tricks to created all manner of different styles and give you the ability to organise and keep track of your pictures after a shoot (as after a full day of shooting you can end up with rather a lot of images and it is very easy for the good ones to become lost in the mountain you have) Filmmaking I have been a filmmaker for about 5 years now and created my company soon after leaving university.
I specialise in music-based film work but also produce an array of promotional videos for small and medium sized local businesses along with short films. When it comes to teaching filmmaking it all depends on what sort of films you would like to produce (or if that isn't known we will go through all manner of different types to find one you do love).
We can go from simply documenting what you see in front of you to telling complex stories and weaving intricate narratives. I will teach you basic skills you need to produce said film and also you the vital skill of video editing, something that takes equal amounts of skill and is full of all manner of different tricks.
In the end, if you're up for learning then I am certainly up for teaching you what I know, I look forward to hearing from you.
Availability: I am available on a full time basis Monday-Friday 8am-7pm
With the nature of photography being all about light there is also the possibility to start earlier and finish later. If you would like to start earlier to catch the sunrise or early morning light than we can start before 7am (for sunrise the time cannot be exact as it changes throughout the year); alternatively as the time when it will be dark changes throughout the year we can also run later than 7pm to give us the ability to get some night based photography. All you will have to do is arrange this with me before hand so we can arrange the details.
I also do run group lessions; the times for these will be a little different and will depend on group size, so again this will just require beforehand communication so it can be properly organized.
Willing to travel: 10 miles
I unfortunately do not have a massive amount of previous experience when it comes to tutoring, as it has only been a recent decision to become more serious with it. Whilst I was studying at University I would teach a few of my fellow students with technical elements they were struggling with, and not surprisingly I have also taught several friends over the years with tips on how to improve their general image making.
