About Elizabeth

I enjoy tutoring believe this role assists in the fine-tuning of the young adults and is imperative in supporting the structure of their learning as well as adding value to their lives. I am currently an undergraduate student at a University, studying BA Hons Applied Social Science, Community Development and Youth Work. I hope to work with young people, raising attainment and achievement.

Tutoring Experience:

During my time as Cover Supervisor at The Quest Academy, I learnt how to proactively facilitate learning in classrooms by delivering cover lessons and ensuring the cover work was relevant, low--level disruption was confronted and resolved, and I was aware of the Individual Education Plans of SEN and Statement students in the lessons. In this role, I had the chance to teach all students across the school, which in turn allowed me to form unique bonds and ways of interacting with each and every student. In addition, I had the opportunity to monitor and manage a Year 9 tutor group from Year 8, where over the terms, I gladly witnessed a positive turnaround in some of my most difficult students. I set up termly incentives such as class picnics, where students were given a ticket entry if they reached a set amount of conduct points at the end of each term. This helped maximise their learning potential and attitude to learning scores. Furthermore, they were given weekly reading, spelling and maths challenges with merit incentives, to aid improvement of reading ages and numeracy levels, which allowed the form rise to the top of the year 8 house point’s leader board. Through establishing good relationships with parents and maintaining sufficient contact, working as a team brought change and consistency. The experience as a whole allowed me to adopt successful ways of teaching and handling children’s individual needs, the importance of monitoring attainment and attendance, the ability to deal with challenging behaviour alongside understanding students without prejudice. My sociable personality was illustrated through my role at Lilian Baylis Technology School, where I gained invaluable experience in understanding specific needs of each child. An above average proportion of the student population were disabled, had a Statement or Special Educational Needs, including students with ASD and cognitive and behavioural needs. Through this, I was able to practice methods of support including setting targets, understanding the Scheme of Work and questioning using Blooms to ensure the children were reaching their learning potential. I also had the opportunity to cover lessons, work 1:1 with students and small groups of children within a mainstream classroom.
