Academic Subjects:
I am a fully qualified lead teacher of Sociology at AS and A-level currently teaching students in a large and reputable Sixth Form College. My specialism lies in providing A-level, AS level and GCSE level tuition for the subject of Sociology, catering for all units, ability levels and exam boards (specialising in AQA).
I am also a lead teacher of AS level Extended Project Qualification (Dissertation), provide tailored one-to-one support on writing outstanding subject/degree specific Personal Statements for university applicants (UCAS), and have taught GCSE English Language. I am able to offer tuition in all these subjects and generally help you develop your English, extended writing and public speaking skills to an advanced level.
In addition to this, I have been awarded a Distinction in my role as an examiner (marker) of AQA Sociology exams. To achieve this, I have undertaken professional training, and have in depth knowledge and current experience of the assessment criteria, and know exactly what students need to do in order to maximise their success in exam questions.
I tutor students on a one-to-one basis, meeting them through a variety of tutoring websites and recommendations from former students. All my students have progressed rapidly, and have gone on to achieve success in Sociology. I have a genuine love for Sociology, having devoted 9 years of my life to both studying and teaching this subject alone.
I also pride myself as being a dedicated professional who keeps abreast of latest sociological literature, research and current affairs in order to provide teaching which is not only theoretically grounded, but also easily understandable through contemporary and interesting examples that are relevant to the lives of young students, and motivates them to achieve their potential. I view my position as a tutor as one of immense responsibility. Hence, I am dedicated to delivering tutoring sessions that draw out the potential that is within each student.
Here`s how I can help you: I can provide one-to-one sessions which are focussed, challenging and tailored to meet your specific needs. These may include (but are not limited to) the following areas:
- Teaching sociological theories and concepts in an easily understandable manner
- Practising exam technique so that you learn how to select and apply different sociological knowledge to different types of questions.
- Developing your writing technique so that you are able to produce argumentative essays which demonstrate analysis and evaluation throughout.
- Analyses of a wide range of past exam and sample questions to help you understand their requirements.
- Regular formal assessment that are provided with timely, constructive and detailed feedback to you.
- Revision methods that aid memorisation and selection of key sociological concepts and theories.
I place paramount importance on promoting a pleasant and positive learning atmosphere, where you are made to feel comfortable enough to communicate any changing needs. I also encourage you to ask as many questions as required!
Communication, Career Development and Lifestyle Development:
Having spent many years observing and studying how the fields of communication are used to varying degrees of success in our daily social and professional lives, I have recognised that actually very few people are able to demonstrate confident and effective communication in their lives, as they lack a foundational understanding of human psychology and emotional intelligence.
I have strived to develop, apply, and teach these crucial skills in communication in a variety of fields in the professional and social world in both my life, and the lives of others. Needless to say, these tried and tested strategies have brought levels of success that cannot simply be explained in a few sentences.
I have developed an advanced understanding of how we are all capable of manipulating communication to suit our individual needs and personalities, as well as being able to adapt it to also suit the personalities of others. I am extremely passionate about the role of verbal and non-verbal communication, and firmly believe that it is the most necessary skill needed for success in every aspect of our lives. Once mastered, it can be truly life-changing.
I am able to offer tutoring in the following areas:
- Writing skills (formal/academic).
- Job applications and CV writing (maximising interest from employers for career progression).
- Personal statements for UCAS.
- Public speaking (presentation skills that make you engaging).
- Interview skills and techniques (success through verbal and non-verbal communication).
- Assertive communication (verbal and non-verbal socially and professionally).
- Lifestyle choices (living a more connected, fulfilling and attractive life).
Availability: Please contact me for my availability, as this varies.
I am currently accepting students for the forthcoming academic year, and I would advise you to get in touch early in the academic year, rather than much later when it is very close to exams season. This will give me adequate time to help you fully consolidate your understanding of sociological theory, and then proceed with developing exam technique using the wide range of past and sample questions I have collated.
If you live more than 8 miles away from me and are interested in tuition:
I would recommend meeting for tuition at a mutually agreed public location, such as a library - where quiet study rooms are available.
Willing to travel: 8 miles
Tutoring Experience:
I have experience of teaching and tutoring all ability levels and for all exam boards (specialising in AQA), as well as in depth knowledge and professional training of recent changes to syllabus content and exam question structure. I have been awarded a Distinction in my role as an examiner (marker) of AQA Sociology exams.
To achieve this, I have undertaken professional training, and have in depth knowledge and current experience of the assessment criteria, and know exactly what students need to do in order to maximise their success in exam questions.
Driven by my passion for Sociology – I have spent numerous years independently producing an invaluable wealth of teaching resources which are both creative and engaging. These are shared with students to not only help them understand complex sociological theories and concepts, but to also develop smarter revision and exam techniques.
My techniques have proven so effective, that students have not only consistently achieved outstanding results but also surpassed their targets by 1-2 grades.
