I am a native French speaker. I graduated from Brest University ( Brittany) where I passed a degree (Deug) in English and American Literature, English Grammar, linguistics,Phonetics,Translation from English into French and vice-versa. The degree also included American and English History. I have the level of Licence in the same fields as above. I successfully completed the course PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector)(Level 4) at Strode College, Somerset, 2013. I studied Philosophy and French literature up to the Baccalaureat in Brittany.I am passionate about French and English Literature.
I speak and write a good standard of English and French. I focus on a clear, easy and efficient method to help students speak and understand French with confidence and be understood by others. I efficiently help teenagers improve their grades for GCSE French and A levels. I am patient and non-judgmental of the levels and abilities of my students. For me repetition is an important key to learning a language above all in the early stages. I help students with their pronunciation and understanding of grammar. I do recommend that students do their homework to progress continually. I have an up-to-date DBS (CRB).
Availability: I work from 9 to 7pm on week days and from 9 to early afternoon on Saturdays.

My experience involves working with adult and teenage students. Sessions are tailored to the specific needs of students such as someone needing to speak French for work. In the school year 2014, I have helped students prepare for their GCSE. This involves explaining from scratch the main points of grammar and guiding their pronunciation so students can perform better for oral and listening exams. At the moment, June 2014, I am helping a student study the novel Madame Bovary more in depth. This is in preparation for the entry to University. This involves weekly sessions where I prepare questions in French for my student. I expect the student to prepare answers in French. We discuss in French the style of the novelist, the main themes, the protagonists, the plot etc.
I spend time carefully preparing sessions with the view of increasing the fluency of students. In the course of the school year 2012-2013 I taught English (via skype) to one of my nieces and she achieved good grades in English for her Baccalaureat. At the same time, I also helped an A level student to study Madame Bovary by Gustave Flaubert. I chose excerpts from the novel and prepared questions for the student. When we meet, in addition to going through the prepared questions and analysis, I focus on the pronunciation, grammar and spelling plus vocabulary. I truly enjoy seeing my students improve their confidence in spoken and written French, I also provide tips regarding modern spoken French.
I used to teach French to my daughter and I still teach English to my nieces. I also teach French for beginners. I find that it is important to have a good grasp of grammar so the first lessons focus on this subject but at the same time I correct students on their pronunciation to give them a good start. I am aware that everyone is different and consequently I tend to teach according to the needs of each student. When I was a student in France I used to teach English to adults in preparation for their visits to English speaking countries. I was a volunteer for the Alliance française for which I gave tours in French to adult American students in Seattle.

Name of the person who provided this testimonial: Anne
"I would highly recommend Annie as a tutor to anyone learning French. She really knows her stuff – not just as a native French speaker but as a teacher who is tuned in to where a learner has problems and knowledge gaps. She is very helpful in supplying the information that you don’t get in the textbooks and in providing insights into both written and spoken French. Add to that friendliness and a sense of humour and you have everything you could ask for in an expert language tutor.
