I am incredibly passionate about education and work hard to motivate my students and help them achieve the highest possible grades. I am currently writing a series of educational children's books alongside tutoring. I began tutoring Maths while still at school and quickly developed a passion for teaching which has seen me continuing to tutor when possible for the last 14 years.
I am a qualified teacher (QTS) with experience teaching in schools across London. As a teacher, I taught across the curriculum, particularly in Year 6. One of my proudest moments was when, during my NQT year, my Year 6 class achieved record SATs results in both English and Maths. Certainly throughout my teaching and tutoring career, the greatest reward has been watching my students exceed expectations and achieve their full potential.
I have a friendly approach to teaching and believe that building the students’ confidence is a vital part of the process. My students feel comfortable with me and so are immediately open to the learning. Tutoring is not just helpful in the lead up to exams. I often support struggling students who need help to overcome obstacles in learning and also try to create engaging lessons to motivate my tutees. With my support these students make huge progress and gain the confidence and drive to continue succeeding.
I have travelled widely and enjoy a variety of arts and sports which I use to help tailor lessons towards my student's interests when possible. I feel my enthusiasm for the subjects I teach also helps motivate my students further. I truly enjoy both teaching and learning across the curriculum. My passion, for example, for reading, writing and knowledge led me to complete a History degree at Cambridge.
However, my equal love of Science and Mathematics led me to do a Maths specialism course during my PGCE. I have since taught extensively across the key stages and curriculum. I am equally comfortable working hard towards exam deadlines, as I am teaching creative lessons designed to promote enjoyment of learning. I have extensive experience preparing students for GCSEs, focusing mainly on Maths and Sciences. My students have all achieved excellent results in their exams.
I particularly enjoy running Maths Investigation and Games clubs. These help students find the pleasure in mathematics and by also building up their confidence lead to them overcome obstacles they face. I often have students begging me for extra lessons in the holidays to do ‘fun maths’! It can’t all be games of course and I always make sure I prepare students rigorously for tests. These teaching methods have meant my students all achieve highly successful results.
I can help support students in many different areas. I regularly get asked to assist with homework outside the subject I was initially booked to teach! I have even helped prepare for the scientific reasoning and logic papers needed for certain 16+ entrance.
I also regularly teach extra classes on interview strategy before exams and conduct practice interviews. For this, I am able to draw on my own experience of interviewing, most crucially for both the exceedingly competitive Westminster School and Cambridge University.
I enjoy the process of assessing a student’s needs, working out a strategy to help and then seeing the results.
Availability: I teach throughout the week and very rarely have availability. However, I recently moved house so some slots have now become available to teach locally.
I am available throughout the summer holidays. During this time I am predominantly booked to teach students for intensive short periods in order to prepare them for the year ahead. Summer tuition is a great opportunity to get a boost for the next school year and make sure that things aren’t forgotten over the long break.
