I am a native Russian speaker with a master’s degree in philology. My university curriculum included a course on Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language. I live in Novosibirsk, the largest city of Siberia, and work as a teacher, translator, and editor. My students are generally foreigners living in Russia or planning to visit the country for education, business, and tourism. I teach all the levels, from elementary to proficiency, and also tutor for TORFL (ТРКИ, Test of Russian as a Foreign Language). I’ve been teaching Russian for foreigners for more than ten years and I realize very well that some aspects of my native language can be quite tough, but many of my students find it fascinating nevertheless. I take a special pride in my foreign students who have obtained PhD at Russian universities. It was a real challenge for them, writing their research papers and theses in Russian (and for me, editing their works.)

Tutoring Experience:
In 2006, I began to teach Russian for foreigners working and studying in Akademgorodok, “the Academic Town”, the scientific center of Siberia. Since then, I’ve been working with foreign students, individually and in small groups. Since 2013, I’ve been teaching mostly in Skype. I teach all the required skills: listening, speaking (including pronunciation), reading, writing, etc. The features depend on the personal goals of any student, but the main principles remain. – Since it is impossible to build if you have no foundation, I provide my students with a proper grammar basis. – I work a lot with audio files to develop and improve listening skills. One of the focal points is Russian phonetics, which may not be easy for foreigners. – I give as much conversational practice and new vocabulary as is possible on the current language level, in a broad cultural context.
