About Patrick

Patrick studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge before completing a PhD at Birmingham and postdocs at Oxford, Exeter, and Sussex. His training was in the application of quantum theory to atoms and molecules.

He was then a senior lecturer in maths at Northumbria University in Newcastle for twelve years, specialising in computer programming and chaos theory. He’s published about 20 monographs and many articles ranging from science and mathematics to language and philosophy, and has been elected as a Fellow of several professional bodies. Patrick returned home to Swansea in 2012 to learn Welsh, and run “Swansea Philosophy / Athroniaeth Abertawe” (amongst other things).

He has a passion for language and over many years has developed “aleolinguistics,” the study of “subcreated” tongues, and has invented several of his own. He’s currently an honorary Swansea University Research Forum (SURF) Fellow, and also practices psychotherapy and does creative writing, in between learning about Ancient Egypt.
