To Whom It May Concern I have known James since 2006 during his time at Elstree School where he tutored both my now teenage boys, at school and privately acting as master, mentor and coach. They have both benefitted tremendously from his support and both consider him to be one of the most important and popular teachers throughout their young careers. He still actively and eagerly follows their progress and is thrilled by their successes and shares in their failures. I have had the pleasure of knowing James for the last four years. During the years of our acquaintance, I have known James principally in the capacity of our relationship with Elstree School at which our son, Max attends. As well as being a teacher for Max, he has been a mentor where he has supported Max through a number of issues. His responsibilities have grown as we’ve seen our son flourish, with the addition that we now have James providing personal tutoring to Max. James is an intelligent, motivated but above all a compassionate individual. James has a wonderful rapport with people of all ages but especially children. His ability to connect with pupils and his talent at teaching simple concepts, as well as more advanced topics, are both exceptional. As noted above, our son struggled initially whilst at Elstree both academically and emotionally. James was the one teacher that Max would seek out for support. He developed a natural empathy with Max which means that he was able to bring the best of Max out. His ability to see both the formal areas of education, married with emotional support to boost a child’s confidence is something that sets him apart as an individual and teacher. We know from a number of conversations with other parents that our experience is not an isolated one. Outside normal school hours, I have used James in an informal capacity to provide additional tutoring to Max. This has been across a number of subjects and therefore I have had an opportunity to see his teaching skills more closely than would typically have been normal in a parent teacher relationship. I have been very impressed by his patience, flexibility in style and encouragement that he has shown during these tutoring sessions. The impact on Max has been significant in terms of teaching him technique, structure and giving him the confidence to have a go. My wife and I do not believe that Max would be demonstrating the confidence he is now without this level of passion and support from James. It is our intention to continue to use James as a tutor and, based on our experience, I would trust James to act appropriately in all situations as regards working with Max and other children. Robert
